Animal History Movement Problems
This section shows animals with errors in their movement histories on CTS, which are currently on your holding or have been there in the past. Some animals, such as show animals, have very complicated movement histories; if you need help please call the BCMS Helpline.
Click on the underlined eartag number. This will show you the movement history details and highlight the problem. Please check whether the history meets these movement history rules:
- The history must start with a birth, which is treated as an ON movement. (But for animals born or imported before 1 July 1996, the history may start on 10 September 2000 with a ‘placement’ – i.e. a record of where the animal was at that date.)
- Movements must be matched in pairs, i.e. for each holding listed in the history, there should be an ON and OFF movement, except for the animal’s current holding where there will only be an ON.
- The holding number for the pair of ON and OFF moves must be exactly the same, including the sub-location (where applicable).
- The date of the movement OFF a holding cannot be before the date of the movement ON to that holding.
- The date of the movement ON to a holding cannot be before the date of the movement OFF the previous holding.
- The history must end with an ON movement or a death. The last movement before a death must be an ON. (If the animal dies on farm please do not report an OFF movement. Complete the death details on the passport, Certificate of Registration or Notice of Registration and return to BCMS within 7 days of the animal’s death).
- Each movement should be reported only once. (Duplicate reports will cause problems.)
- Movements must not be dated before the date of birth or after the date of death.
- There should not be a gap between the date of moving OFF one holding and ON to the next, except for gaps of 1 or 2 days when long journeys are involved.
Common problems in a movement history
- Missing movement. A keeper has not reported an ON or OFF movement.
- Duplicate movements. The same movement has been reported more than once.
- Overlapping dates. An ON movement has been reported before the date of the movement OFF the previous holding.
- Wrong CPH number. A keeper has given the wrong holding number so the movement cannot be matched with the corresponding ON or OFF movement.
Please provide information and corrections in the box provided. You should find the necessary information in the animal’s passport and/or in your farm records.
What happens next?
After you have provided information in response to a problem, the ‘traffic light’ immediately changes from red to amber. The information will be sent to BCMS usually on the same day (this may take longer at weekends and public holidays). BCMS will process the information.
Please contact BCMS if you need further advice – contact details are on the left hand menu.
