Report Death of a Registered Animal

Use this screen to report the death of a registered animal on your holding.

This screen is not for the death of animals that you have not yet applied to BCMS for a passport. For these animals you need to use the Report Death of Unregistered Animal option from the left hand menu.

IMPORTANT. You must return passports for all dead animals to BCMS within 7 days of the date of death.

The page is split into 3 sections: information entry; check information; and send the information

Section 1 - Add one or more Deaths to the list.

This is where you enter the information. You must enter the animal eartag number and the date the animal died on your holding. When you have finished click on the ‘Add to list’ button.

Eartag - enter the eartag of the animal you wish to report as Dead. There are three ways you can do this.

If the eartag you wish to use is not in the list of animals on your holding, phone the BCMS Helpline.

Death date - enter the date the animal Died on your holding in the format dd/mm/yyyy. For example 1 January 2009 will be entered as 01/01/2009. You can use shortcuts including 1/1/9, 1 1 9, 1-1-9 as they will be changed to 01/01/2009. Or you can click on the ‘Calendar’ button to select the date. This can be helpful if you know what day of the week the animal Died.

This date will stay in this box until you choose another date or exit this screen.

CTS Online will check the date you enter.

Section 2 - Check the list of deaths and correct any errors

When you have clicked the ‘Add to list’ button this moves the information to the second half of the page and adjusts the counter on the first line of this section. You can then enter another death in Section 1.

Delete deaths from list - if you want to delete one of the animals from the list, click on the circle to the left of the eartag and click the ‘Delete’ button.

Correct death details in list - If you need to correct the information in one of the summary lines, click on the circle to the left of the eartag number and then click the ‘Edit’ button. This will move the information to the first section for you to correct. When you have made the changes, click on the ‘Replace in list’ button. This will replace the information in section 2.

Section 3 - Send the list of deaths to BCMS

When you are happy with all the information in section 2 click on the ‘Send’ button to send it to CTS. You will then see a feedback receipt, which shows the information you have sent to CTS. You can print this by clicking on the ‘print’ symbol.

If you realise you have made a mistake after sending the information to the CTS, please phone the BCMS helpline as soon as possible.

Additional information

You can see the deaths you have just sent using CTS Online in the ‘Recorded Events’ section on the View Cattle Summary page. When processed these animals will be removed from your main ‘Cattle on Holding’ list.
