Application Problems

This section shows all of your passport applications which BCMS cannot process due to unresolved errors.

Click on the underlined eartag number. This will show you the application details and highlight the problem. Please check whether the application conforms to the following application rules:

You must enter a valid eartag number for the calf. This must be a number for which double tags have been ordered for the holding of birth. The eartags must not have been cancelled. The number must not have already been used for an animal.
You must enter a valid breed.
You must enter the sex of the animal as male or female.
You must enter a valid date of birth which is not in the future. The date must be in the format DD/MM/YYYY. Invalid dates are those which do not exist, for instance 31/02/2008.
You must enter a genetic dam.
If you also enter a surrogate dam (see below), this must not have the same eartag as the genetic dam.
If you enter a sire, this must not have the same eartag as the genetic dam or the surrogate dam (if there is one).
If you enter a sire and it has a UK eartag, the sire must be registered on CTS as a male animal.

The following conditions apply to the birth dam. If there is a surrogate dam then this is the birth dam; otherwise the genetic dam is the birth dam. (A surrogate dam is only relevant in cases where embryo transfer is used.)

The birth dam should

be registered on CTS as a female animal,
have been alive on the holding of birth on the date of birth,
not be older than 20 years or younger than 15 months on the date of birth,
not have calved less than 240 days before the date of birth of the current calf.

If the dam you have entered doesn’t meet all these conditions then BCMS will contact you to confirm details. You may be asked to provide evidence when a calf has been born in unusual circumstances.

The birth holding must be a valid location on CTS and be active on the date of birth.

What happens next?

After you have provided information in response to a problem, the ‘traffic light’ immediately changes from red to amber. The information will be sent to BCMS usually on the same day (this may take longer at weekends and public holidays). BCMS will process the information.
