Inferred Movements

Inferred movements have not been reported by any keeper, but are created by CTS in certain circumstances to fill gaps in an animal’s history. For instance, an animal is reported as moving off Holding A on 1 June; later it is reported as moving off Holding B on 1 September; CTS therefore infers that it moved on to Holding B on 1 June.

This may arise because a keeper has forgotten to report a movement, or because there has been some mistake about a date or location. To improve the accuracy of CTS, BCMS would like to replace these inferred movements with normal ON or OFF movements confirmed by a keeper.

Please check your farm records for the animal in question and use the information box to confirm the inferred movement or to provide any corrected information.

Please remember in future to report all movements to BCMS within three days.

What happens next?

After you have provided information in response to a problem, the ‘traffic light’ immediately changes from red to amber. The information will be sent to BCMS usually on the same day (this may take longer at weekends and public holidays). BCMS will process the information.

Please contact BCMS if you need further advice – contact details are on the left hand menu.
